The Piper Cub, or Piper J-3, is a light aircraft whose design dates back to the 1930s. Built in more than 20,000 copies, it remains today one of the most famous and appreciated classic gear aircraft.
The Piper was selected in June following a call for tenders to provide the US Army Air Corps with a device allowing observers to be on board to regulate artillery fire. Initially designated as the O-59 (“O” recalling its observer role), the monoplane then bore the name L-4 (“L” for liaison) from April 1942.
Affectionately known as the “Grasshopper”, the Piper L-4 was deployed in all US Army theaters of operations during World War II. On June 6, 1944, he was hired to adjust the fire of the Allied Navy. Throughout the Battle of Normandy, he continued to inform the Allied artillerymen while participating in the transport of authorities. Particularly light, it is able to take off over a very short distance and does not require any particular runway surface.
We offer you this collection of t-shirts screen printed by hand in our workshop in Narbonne or printed DTG via our partner in tribute to this mythical plane.
